Why type up a syllabus the Ministry has already written? MySchool comes with the National Standards Curriculum (NSC) preloaded, so your school can have a complete, editable curriculum for a subject and grade in under a minute.
Who can use it: principals, administrators, school leadership and heads of department (for their own department's subjects).
What's in the library
The library holds the Ministry of Education and Youth's NSC guides for Grades 7–9:
| Subject | Grades | Guide edition |
|---|---|---|
| Mathematics | 7, 8, 9 | 2018 |
| English Language / Literature | 7, 8 | Version 2, January 2020 |
| Integrated Science | 7, 8, 9 | January 2020 |
| Social Studies | 7, 8, 9 | January 2020 |
| Information Technology | 7, 8, 9 | January 2020 |
Each one brings in, unit by unit and term by term:
- the unit name, its term, its order in the term and its length in weeks
- About the unit, Prior learning, Resources, Key vocabulary, Points to note, Extended learning and Links to other subjects
- the standard or attainment targets for each block of work
- every objective, numbered by grade, term and unit (for example G7.T1.U1.3)
- the suggested teaching and learning activities, key skills, assessment criteria and learning outcomes
More subjects and grades will be added to the library over time.
Create a curriculum from the NSC
- Go to Curriculum (heads of department: My Department › Curriculum).
- Choose Start from NSC.
- In the Library list, pick the guide and grade you want. Use the subject filter above the list to narrow it down.
- Under Import as:
- Subject — choose your school's subject. MySchool suggests the one whose name matches; change it if your school names the subject differently.
- Academic year — the year this curriculum is for, or Any year.
- Title — keep the suggested title or give it your own.
- Choose Import as Draft.
The new curriculum opens straight away as a Draft. Nobody outside the Curriculum screen sees it until you publish it.
Make it yours, then publish
The imported curriculum is your school's own copy — edit it like any other:
- Reorder, rename or remove units to match your school's term plan.
- Add your own objectives, activities and assessment, or trim what you won't cover.
- Check the Preview tab for a read-through, then set the status to Published.
Once published, classes of that subject and grade follow it automatically and teachers can start planning against it. See Building your curriculum for publishing and assigning classrooms.
How the NSC is laid out in MySchool
MySchool organises a curriculum as Unit › Topic › Sub-topic › Objective. The NSC guides are mapped onto that like this:
- Unit — each NSC unit of work.
- Topic — each block of work with its own standard or attainment targets. In Mathematics, Social Studies and Information Technology that is usually the unit itself; in Integrated Science it is each sub-unit (for example "Safety Precautions in Exploring the Environment"); in English it is each strand (Speaking and Listening, Reading for Meaning, Writing and so on).
- Objectives — every objective bullet from the guide.
The NSC lists suggested activities, key skills, assessment criteria and learning outcomes for a whole block of work rather than for each objective, so MySchool keeps them together with the first objective of the block. You'll find all of them there when you plan.
Good to know
- Importing never changes the library. You can import the same guide again — for another year, or to start over.
- The guide's wording is kept as published, including the odd unit title that differs from its content (for example, Grade 8 Mathematics Term 2 Unit 1). Edit anything you'd like to read differently.
- A modified NSC is in use for 2025–2026 (Ministry General Bulletin 141-2025). Compare your imported curriculum with your department's current guidance and adjust it as needed.
