📚 How to Create and Manage Quizzes in MySchool

Introduction

In the MySchool Ecosytem, a Quiz is a special type of Classwork. Instead of a regular document, you create a "Quiz Assignment" which attaches an interactive quiz for students to complete.

This guide will walk you through the complete workflow:

1. Creating the "Quiz Assignment" shell.
2. Building the quiz itself in the Quiz Editor.
3. Adding questions manually or from the quiz library.
4. Assigning the quiz to your students.

1. Creating a New Quiz Assignment

This first step creates the "assignment" container that will hold your quiz.

1. Navigate to Classwork: From your main classroom page, click on the Classwork tab.
2. Click Create: Click the + Create button to open the dropdown menu.

3. Select Quiz Assignment: Choose Quiz Assignment from the list.

   

A new "Quiz Assignment" page will open. This page looks similar to a standard assignment, but it automatically includes a "Blank Quiz" attachment.

2. Setting Up the Assignment

On this page, you fill in the details for the classwork post.

• Title: Give your assignment a title (e.g., "Module 3 Test," "Chapter 5 Pop Quiz").
• Instructions: Provide any instructions for your students (e.g., "This quiz covers all topics from Module 3. You will have 30 minutes to complete it.").

• Class, Students, Points, Due, Topic: Assign the quiz to your class(es), set the total points, add a due date, and organize it under a topic, just like any other assignment.

  

3. Building Your Quiz in the Editor

This is where you add your questions. The "Blank Quiz" attachment is your gateway to the editor.

1. Access the Editor: Click on the "Blank Quiz" attachment at the bottom of your assignment. This will open the Quiz Editor in a new view.
2. The Quiz Editor Interface: Once open, you will see the main editor.
   • Title: Click "Blank Quiz" at the top to rename your quiz.
   • Navigation Tabs: You have five main tabs:
     • Questions: The main area for building your quiz.
     • Responses: Where you will see student submissions and grades once they are in.
     • Settings: Manage options like time limits, question randomization, etc.
     • View: Preview the quiz as a student would see it.

     • Save: Saves your progress on the quiz.

       

4. Adding Questions to Your Quiz

You have two powerful options for adding questions.

Path A: Add a New Question Manually

Use this option to create questions from scratch.

1. Click the + Add Question button.
2. A new question card will appear in edit mode.
3. Write your question: Use the rich text editor to type your question. You can add images, links, and formatting.
4. Select Question Type: Choose from the dropdown (e.g., "Multiple Choice," "Short Answer," "Paragraph").
5. Set Points: Assign a point value for the question.
6. Add Options (for Multiple Choice):
   • Type the text for each option.
   • Click Add Option to add more choices.
   • Click the check icon next to the correct answer to mark it.

   • Click the trash icon to remove an option.

     

Path B: Add from Other Quizzes

Use this option to reuse questions you or other teachers have already created.

1. Click the Add from Other Quizzes button.
2. A search modal will slide out from the right.
3. Search for Content:
   • Use the search bar to find quizzes by keyword (e.g., "Major Scale," "World War 2").
   • Toggle between Community (all public quizzes in MySchool) and My library (quizzes you have created).
   • Use the filters for Grade, Subjects, etc., to narrow your results.
4. Select Questions:
   • Click a quiz in the left-hand list.
   • The questions from that quiz will appear on the right.
   • Review the questions and click + Add question to add a single question to your quiz.

   • Click + Add all [X] questions to import the entire quiz.

     

5. Assigning the Quiz to Students

Once you have added all your questions and are happy with the quiz:

1. Save Your Quiz: Click the Save button in the Quiz Editor.
2. Close the Editor: Click the "X" in the top corner to close the editor and return to the "Quiz Assignment" setup page.
3. Assign the Classwork: Your quiz is now ready. Click the "Action" button (which may say "Assign," "Schedule," or "Save Draft") in the top-right corner to post the assignment to your students.

When students open the assignment, they will click the same link you did, but it will open the quiz for them to take.
